Happy Holidays From The Studio Chapter!

On Saturday December 16th we’ll be meeting for an informal lunch at San Antonio Winery outside of Downtown Los Angeles. Details are at the bottom of this post. We hope you can make it but if you can’t, have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

Also, our chapter member Annick has written a review of the wonderful film ‘Coco’. You can read this and other reviews at her blog here: https://annickjdownhower.wordpress.com/2017/11/26/family-is-forever-in-coco/ .

December Holiday Lunch
  • Saturday 12/16 11:30 AM (Try to be there no later than 11:30 so we can get in line together.)
  • Holiday lunch at San Antonio Winery – Maddalena restaurant. 737 Lamar Street Los Angeles. Website: https://sanantoniowinery.com/restaurant/  .

  • You do not need to RSVP but if you know you are going to make it you can reply so we can get an approximate head count.
  • San Antonio Winery also has wine tasting and a nice gift shop. There are no tours during the month of December unfortunately. Plenty of free parking. We will also have a few ‘door’ prizes and will do a gift exchange for those who want to participate. Since we do not have a separate room and only table space, gifts should be on the smallish size with a value of $10 -$20.
  • Optionally for those who wish to we’ll head down to Knott’s Merry Farm after the lunch. (Time will depend on how long the lunch goes but we’ll meet up by the old school house in Ghost Town between the wood carver and Bird Cage theater.)

Update Regarding Our June Meet-up
At Downtown Disney

Hello All – Enjoying the heat yet?? The AMC Downtown Disney finally posted show times for this Saturday, June 24th. For those of you planning on meeting up please see the times below. You are welcome to attend all or part of the fun. Just show up! If you are planning on coming and want a contact phone send and email to info@thestudiochapter.org and we’ll give you Ron and/or Steve’s number so you can text us should you need to. No need to contact us otherwise. If we don’t see you Saturday then hopefully we’ll see you at our July meeting on Saturday July 22nd. In the meantime—stay cool!

Cars III at AMC Downtown Disney:
Meet at 10 AM in front of the theater. Buy your ticket when you get there or in advance. We don’t believe it’s reserved seating so it shouldn’t be an issue. Showtime is at 11AM. (Reserved seating for this theater appears to only be for the IMAX screen.)

Lunch at Rainforest Café Downtown Disney:
Meet at 1:30 PM in front of Rainforest. If you come for lunch but not the movie please be on time so we have a head count. We’ll be putting our name in at 1:30 so will need to know for how many. Please bring cash to make it easier to pay the bill. Some of us plan on browsing Downtown Disney after lunch.

Trader Sams Disneyland Hotel:
Meet at 6:30 PM at Trader Sams for a tropical drink. To make up the cancelled luau, we’re planning on finding a table (wish us luck) on the patio of Trader Sams to relax and enjoy something refreshing. Time is approximate. (Note: if it’s insanely crowded then we’ll find some place to gather at Tangaroa Terrace.)

For information on the July meeting and our previous blog post please visit: http://thestudiochapter.blogspot.com/2017/06/junejuly-meeting-update-june-24-th.html

As always if you want to receive our emails and join the chapter (no fees!) please just email your name and contact information to info@thestudiochapter.org

Just show up. We’ll send out movie time as the date approaches but we’ll be aiming for an 11 AM showing with lunch afterwards. Later in the day we’ll probably meet up at Trader Sam’s to make up for the cancellation of our Luau. Our own movie historian Annick Downhower will talk about the movie and filming locations beforehand. We expect this to be especially interesting and enlightening since she is not only a film historian but has in depth knowledge of Santa Anita and horse-racing in general. This is a free event. We’ll send details before the day of the meeting.

July 29th ‘bonus’!

Fun times at the Disneyana Fan Club 'mini-convention' over the president's day weekend.

The DFC held a 'mini-convention' over the recent holiday weekend to partially make up for the lack of a regular convention this July due to the D23 and Comic Con expos which are happening during the normal convention time frame. If you were able to make the two events and show and sale this past weekend you surely had a great time and possibly picked up a few new additions to your Disney collection. We know many of you couldn't make it and there are sure to be full details about the weekend in up-coming copies of the Disneyana Dispatch newsletter. But, in the meantime please enjoy a few photos of the two meal events. Also, more info. on the Studio Chapter's Pixar field trip will be posted soon. However there is still space available if you want to attend. See our previous post for details. See you real soon!

First up on Saturday evening was The Happiest Millionaire dinner event. We even got to take home our very own alligator.
This not so little guy was part of a photo op. And in case he looks familiar, you may have seen him in The World of Motion attraction at EPCOT.
After dinner 'The Four Gentlemen' started off the evening with several songs including our very own Disneyana theme song.
After that, there was a fantastic panel to discuss and reminisce about the movie. From the left--Caryl Carothers, Paul Petersen, Joyce Bulifant, Stacia Martin, Leslie Ann Warren and moderator Allan Halcrow. And in the front, just visible, another alligator prop.
Paul Petersen and Leslie Ann Warren signing the poster. After the panel several items were auctioned off  (including this poster) with proceeds to benefit Ryman Arts and the DFC. It was a wonderful evening with great food, entertainment and lots of stories and information. If you have never seen or haven't seen The Happiest Millionaire in a while, check it out. It will also explain the alligators!
The next meal event on Monday afternoon was a celebration of Don DeFore's Silver Banjo BBQ restaurant in Frontierland. We all walked away with and awesome Silver Banjo BBQ pin. (And we have an extra we'll be giving away at the Luau in June.)
The table decorations were wonderful as usual.
More decorations.
The Silver Banjo BBQ Restaurant was located between the current Riverbelle Terrace and Stage Door Cafe. The entrance is still there but is now used for storage.
The food, THE FOOD!! It was fantastic. They recreated the BBQ sauce used at the restaurant. If you had ever eaten at Loves BBQ (unfortunately now long gone too) you would recognize the sauce--very similar. Selections included baked beans, coleslaw, BBQ ribs and chicken, mini BBQ pulled pork sliders and an assortment of desserts.
We started off the presentation by hearing from author Marcy Smothers who has a new cookbook coming out called 'Eat Like Walt' which contains many Disney related recipes including the BBQ sauce used at The Silver Banjo. (It's available for pre-order from Amazon if you are interested) Brothers Ron and David DeFore then took the stage and talked about the restaurant, its history and some of their adventures spending many days in Disneyland all accompanied by numerous photos. If you ever get a chance to see their presentation its well worth your time. A big thank you to all the DFC board members and volunteers who provided a very enjoyable weekend!
