2017 Meeting & Activity Calendar

It's Here! – following is the schedule of meetings and activities for 2017. You will notice this year we are not sticking to a specific schedule to allow better flexibility for our various meetings and activities. Many of the meetings and activities are on Saturdays and times may vary as noted. Dates as noted are firm as of today so please mark your calendars so you don't miss out on the fun. If you are not receiving our emails please email your name and email to info@thestudiochapter.org and we'll add you to our email list. This way you'll get the most up to date information so you won't miss out on the fun.

For the ‘off months’ this year we are doing what we’ll call ‘Studio Chapter Meet-Ups!’. Generally these will be casual and unstructured with no set agenda other than a set time to ‘meet-up’. We have always considered our chapter a group of friends--old and new--and hope these will allow those who want to a chance to get together during the non-meeting months.

February

• DFC President Day Weekend Events – Saturday Happiest Millionaire Dinner event, Sunday Show and Sale, Monday Silver Banjo BBQ Lunch Event.
• February 18^th through 20^th.

March

• Pixar Exhibit and Endeavor @ California Science Center Exposition park.
• Saturday March 11^th
• Pixar Exhibit entry at 10AM, Lunch at Noon, Endeavor entry at 2PM (Note these are timed entry events so no late-comers!)
• Group tickets $10.50. RSVP with check by 2/28 however please don’t wait. We have a limited number of tickets available.
• Send payment to:
• PayPal - steve.Lombard@live.com and note this is for the Pixar Event. Follow up with an email that payment was sent. Send email to info@thestudiochapter.org.
• By Mail – send check to Steve Lombard / Pixar Event (reply for address if you prefer to mail a check vs. PayPal).

April

• Studio Chapter Meet-Up!  – Knott’s Boysenberry Festival and Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner.
• Saturday April 1^st. Meet-Up time and location to enjoy the Boysenberry Festival in the park will be announced closer to the date but will be around noon. Knott’s admission is required.
• Mrs. Knott’s for dinner at 4PM. RSVP required for the dinner (so we can reserve a table) and cost will be about $30 for the complete meal with non-alcoholic beverage. This includes tax and tip after discount. RSVP by sending an email to info@thestudiochapter.org. Admission not required for the dinner only.

May

• Studio Chapter Meet-Up! – Fullerton Railroad Days with lunch at The Old Spaghetti factory.
• Saturday May 6^th at 10AM. Meet on the track side of the depot.

June

• Start of Summer Luau & Movie ‘under the stars’.
• Saturday June 24^th 2 to 10 PM
• Catered Hawaiian food, Raffle, Movie* under the stars after dark, door prizes, Hawaiian music and decorations. Guest speaker tentative.
• $5 donation requested.
• *Movie to be determined and announced at a later date.
• Ron King’s house in Norwalk.

July

• Meeting then a movie and talk with our very own film historian Annick Downhower.
• Saturday July 22nd. Meeting at Arcadia Coco’s at 3:30 PM. Dinner (menu price) and raffle.
• Movie Night at the Arcadia Heritage museum at 7:30 PM. This will be the first of two movie nights presented by the Arcadia Heritage museum with a talk about the movie beforehand with film historian Annick Downhower. A couple of us attended these last summer and had a fantastic time. Details on the film will be provided at a later date. Note: this event is free and is part of the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage slate of annual events. http://www.arcadiaca.gov/home/showdocument?id=8916

August

• Studio Chapter Meet-Up! – Disneyland member birthday get together.
• Sunday August 13^th. Time and meet-up location TBD.

September

• Studio Chapter Outing – Huell Howser & California Scene Painting exhibit at Chapman University and Great Wolf Lodge tour with lunch.
• Sunday September 17^th. Time TBD

October

• Return of our Halloween Party!
• Saturday October 21^st from 4 to 10PM @ Ron’s House in Norwalk
• Pot Luck, Bingo, Raffle, decorations and Pumpkin Cookie decorating contest! J

November

• No meetings this month. Happy Thanksgiving!

December

• Holiday brunch or dinner at San Antonio Winery & Winery tour.
• We may also head over to Olvera Street for the Las Posadas pageant in the evening.
• Saturday December 16^th.
• Note: The date of this is firm but the time is TBD. We’ll be sending out more info on this early so we can start planning out reservations, etc.

The Studio Chapter Holiday Party

Hello Studio Chapter Family and Friends – Now that everyone is recovered from Thanksgiving gastronomic excessiveness we would imagine you are getting into the full swing of things surrounding the holidays—shopping, decorating, enjoying the beautiful decorations and festivities at Disneyland and elsewhere and spending time with family and friends. Here at the Studio Chapter we are decking the halls and preparing for the annual holiday party. We hope you can join us for a fun afternoon. Happy Holidays from The Studio Chapter!

Activities: Cookie Decorating, Photo Booth, Raffle and Door Prizes.

Gift Exchange: If you want to participate, please bring a wrapped gift valued between $10 and $20.

Toy and Food Drive: Toys will be donated to the Spark of Love toy drive and food to the Norwalk Food Bank. Toys should be unwrapped and food should be non-perishable unexpired boxed or canned items. (Thank you!)

Let’s Eat: The chapter will be serving up a build your own Nacho/Taco Salad Bar and drinks. We are asking guests to bring their favorite Hors d'oeuvre/munchie or dessert.

When: Sunday December 11^th at 12 noon to 4 PM--but you can stay as long as you want.

Quick Holiday Update

We hope everyone is enjoying this very un-fall like weather! As Thanksgiving approaches it’s time to think about our holiday party as it's approaching quickly. Below are some highlights. Eyvind Earle Exhibit Field Trip

& Lunch at the Tam O'Shanter

For October we'll be meeting at Glendale Forrest Lawn to view the Eyvind Earle exhibit at their museum. We've heard nothing but good things about this so we're looking forward to it. This is also where Walt and Lillian's burial site is located and plan to visit that as well. Afterwards, since we're so close, we'll meet at one of Walt's favorite restaurants the Tam O'Shanter for a late lunch/early dinner. You can attend either or both. Details below. See you Sunday.

September Meeting Information

We have special guest speaker--landscape architect Kelly Comras for our September 18th meeting to talk about her new book Ruth Shellhorn. Ruth Shellhorn was a pioneer in landscape architecture and helped define mid-century Southern California with such visionary projects as Disneyland, Bullock’s Pasadena and Bullock’s Wilshire, and the University of California at Riverside. Come join us for lunch and to hear about her work on Disneyland and some of her other projects. The presentation will begin with a 15 minute documentary. 

For those of you who missed the author's panel at the Disneyana Fan Club convention here is your chance to hear one of the authors. And for those who did see the author's panel you'll be treated to a longer presentation and the full 15 min film will be shown. The book will be available for sale.

Prior to the presentation please join us for lunch provided by The Studio Chapter. We'll end the afternoon with a raffle. We're hoping to get a good turnout for this meeting and would really love to see you so we hope you can make it. All the details are below. Thanks!
